Love of a Life Time!
Jamey and I met four years ago this May. Right out of high school I moved to Statesboro, Georgia to attend college. After about a year or so decided that I needed to move home to get my grades up and attend college in Lawrenceville to save money and be closer to family. About a week after moving home a friend called and said that he had moved and wanted me to come over and watch a movie with him and his roommate. So I headed over and by then end of the night Jamey and I were flirting so obviously that our mutual friend, Daniel, had gotten upset. After leaving not sure what the outcome would be I was surprised when Jamey gave me a call a few days later asking me to meet him and several friends for drinks. After arriving for drinks I was startled to realize that the few friends were several other women. Not ecstatic about the situation I muttled through the night and overall had a pretty good time. At the end of the night I was feeling confused and figured I would avoid him and save the trouble. Easier said then done- later that week while I was working he showed up at my work and asked me to come to his house to hang out after I got off work. With no other plans in mind I decided to stop by and hang out a while. We had an awesome time but having just moved from another town I was very hesitant to get involved right away. So over the next several months we dated and after a while things just fizzled out both finding other people of interest. Over the next few months my life took a huge turn for the worse I had some horrible luck and would have some major obstacles to overcome ahead of me. Just at this point I got a phone call from Jamey, he had heard that I was having some trouble and he wanted to take me out and cheer me up. So we went out and we were together from then on. I was still in school working towards my bachelor’s degree and him being several years older than I he had already gotten his and was working as a loan officer at a local bank. Over the next several years he did everything for me took me on awesome vacations, helped me study, surprised me with flowers, and most importantly was honest and loyal to me even though my life still was still a project in the works.
After we had been together about three years I stared wondering where our relationship was headed. Although Jamey loved me he knew that it was not time to get engaged (even though he was getting significant pressure from me) because I still had at least a year left in school. So because I was frustrated and upset things began to change for us and over the next several months we both grew apart and finally broke up. We stayed apart for about three months with no contact at all from each other. As June approached I knew his birthday was coming up and figured I would send a simple card because we were together for so long. Then one day he called and said that he missed going out dancing (knowing this was my weakness) and that we should go out that Saturday. So he picked me up and said that we would be staying at his friend George’s house downtown and I should pack a bag. So when we got downtown we pulled up at the Georgian Terrace(my favorite hotel in Atlanta that I had always wanted to stay at) and little did I know what he had in store. We went in and got to our room – this not being his friend “George’s”. Then we went to an awesome dinner at Ruth Chris and a show at the Fox Theater and of course V.I.P tickets to a posh club in midtown for dancing that night where all of our mutual friends were waiting to dance the night away. Sort of dreading the next morning the only thing Jamey said is that “If this is the beginning of the rest of our lives then I wanted it to be awesome, and if this is the last time we ever see each other then I wanted this as the memory”. So needless to say we got back together taking things slow and really working on the things that needed our attention.
This December rolled around and I would be starting my last semester in college and looking forward to the rest of my life. Jamey and I knowing how great things had been talked about getting engaged after the first of the year or after I graduated in May. One day while I was at work Jamey called and said that his boss had given him tickets to a play downtown and that they were running a special a the Georgian Terrace and we should just stay down there. So the day comes and we head downtown and got checked into our room. After a minute I realized that he had booked the exact same room that we stayed in the night that we had gotten back together room 700. How sweet I thought!! So having some extra time we decided to go walk around a bit and then sit in the lobby and chat before we needed to get ready. So after a while we saw a man in the lobby of the hotel that looked like he was drawing a picture. Jamey hops and says “wonder if he will draw us”? I was thinking that he was crazy and that we should leave the man alone but Jamey runs over and the artist agreed to draw our picture. I was kind of embarrassed but I went over and sat down for the artist to draw us. After about five minutes the artist asks me to take a look at the picture stating that he was not sure if he was getting it right. So I walked over and looked at the picture thinking to my self- hu?? The picture was of Jamey on one knee with a ring box in his hand asking me to marry him. Stunned I looked back to Jamey and there he was on one knee with the ring box in hand he said “It would make me the happiest man in the world if you would spend the rest of your life with me, will you marry me?” Of course I said YES!
I know Jamey is the one because no matter how bad or how huge the obstacle was he stood by my side. He has always been there even when everyone one else except family turned their backs. He has loved me, supported me, been honest to me, and always gone above and beyond to make me the happiest person alive. He pushes me to be the best person I can and supports every decision I make-good or bad! What else could a woman want- this is the love people dream of!
