The Day After!

Submitted by Richard Dahl Where do I start with Darcy and me? Well we first met 24 years ago on a blind date. I was just out of the military and she was still in High School. We couldn't keep our hands to ourselves that first night, and so we started seeing each other after that for around 4 months. I think I scared her away by talking about our future. And she (as she describes it) was an 18 yr old not ready to settle down in any place for to long. So we ended up separating after what seemed to be a blissful four months. After that we lost touch until I found her again 16 years later via the internet. We talked a little and sent a few letters back and forth for a while, and then I lost her again. Over the years I had always wondered what she was up to, where she was and how she was doing. Years passed by and we had an on and off friendship until she moved and I lost her again. Then back in Oct/Nov I was on Reunion.Com looking for old school chums and I thought "what the heck" I'll type her name in and see what happens. Well to my surprise there she was! So I emailed her and waited to see if she would write me back. She did finally write me back after awhile. We exchanged personal email addresses and emailed back and forth a few times as friends. Then one day out of the blue SHE CALLED ME! Boy, what a surprise that was. I was busy with work and asked her to call me back. Boy was I stupid for asking that, I thought after I Hung up the phone. Here was the girl of my dreams calling me for the first time in 23 years, and I asked her to call me back! Well you know what? She did call me back and we have been talking ever since. I guess I am getting ahead of the story a bit. So after talking with her and emailing back and forth for around 10 days, we decided to meet somewhere on the day after Thanksgiving. She was to be visiting her sister who lives close to my work. We were going to meet, talk about old times, see each other and just catch up. Having been apart from each other for 23 years, there was a lot of catching up to do. So time went on waiting for what seemed to be eons to meet with her. We talked on the phone some more waiting for the big day to come. She made me feel like a king every time we talked. Well as you might imagine, we couldn't wait for the "day" to see each other. We made a "date" for me to come over to her new apartment to have the first meeting. Talk about sweaty palms, I had buckets coming off of me. The drive over I felt like I was 10 years old again. Giddy with the anticipation of seeing my long lost love for the first time in 23 years. I had wanted this more than anything else in the world. Well I got to her place and stood outside her door for what seemed like an eternity, mustered up the courage and knocked on her door. I don't even think I heard the knocks, I was in my own little world at that time, hearing nothing else except my own heartbeat, and louder than it had ever beat. She opened the door and I instantly froze, my feet wouldn't move, and my heart stopped. She was gorgeous! There in front of me was the girl of my dreams, smiling at me like she did so many years ago. Well let me tell you, after seeing her smile like that, my feet moved, my heart began to beat (faster than I thought possible) and I gave her the biggest hug anyone has ever seen. I was shaking, as was she, but we both knew that this was the best hug we have had in a long time. I have dreamed of this moment for years but was sure it would never happen. Well I went in. (at this point I was still shaking) She did her best to make me feel welcome and it did work. We then sat down and we talked and talked for hours. We did do a little more hugging and I'm sure there were some kisses too. We always look back to this day and both of us are glad it worked out for us. The feelings we once had for each other were there. Hers were just put away until the day they re-awoke inside her. We both feel that it is like we both fell asleep 23 years ago and we just woke up and nothing has changed. The rest you might say is history. But as far as I am concerned, it has only just begun. I never thought I would be able to see and be with the one woman in my life that I have loved for all these years, without her knowing it. She is my world and always will be. I love her! She is my soul mate and my best friend. That is why I am marrying her. She is the air in my lungs and the steps I walk every day. To have my life long dream come true...Well I am the happiest man alive! I have to say though, to find a lost love, is the greatest thing around, especially if they love you back the same as you love them. I am sure I have left out a few things here, but I think you can understand what and how I feel about Darcy. Oh and by the way…..! We did still meet the day after Thanksgiving! Go figure!
